Are you trying to put together a stronger base to defend against enemy raids? We have prepared the perfect guide for you. The base building strategy has been split into two parts, the first part will be a generic base building strategy that guide you throughout the way, the second part will be tower specific where we go through exact details about how to setup your defensive towers. Combine both parts when setting up your base and game progression to make sure that you advance through the game easily.
This part of the guide will also touch upon the best game progression for you to advance through the game without hitting much bottlenecks. Please note that the advices provided here is mainly for beginner or intermediate players who want to become better at their bases construction. Advanced players may find strategies provided here too basic.
Without Further ado,
PART 1 Base Setup: General Base Building Strategy
PART 2: Tower Defense Layout Setup Strategy
1. Balance Your Base Level Progression with Dragon Breeding
With the game pushing for the various “Speed Up” or Fortification even where you are awarded for building out your base, you should only do it if your dragon breeding and level up training can keep up with the progress. If you blindly spend real money on rubies and speed up can quickly advance and level up your bases, you will quickly find that all the bases you face will annihilate your advancing dragons.
If you are going for the fortification event, consider completely halting your base construction to bring up your dragon’s power to speed after the event. Your goal is to have the strongest dragon possible for your tier. Your goal should be aiming to unlock each of the new dragons at the beginning of each tier. For example, you want to unlock Purple Dragon as soon as you hit level 7, and use the next 10 levels of construction to level them up as much as you can. So that you will have enough fire power to train your Orange tier eggs when level 17 rolls around.
Base Level 1~7: Red Dragon
Base Level 7~17: Purple Dragon
Base Level 17~28: Orange Dragon
Base Level 28~63: Green Dragon
Base Level 63+: Gold Dragon
Conclusion: Base Level should be Balanced with Dragon Breeding and Leveling.
2. Quality of Quantity in Tower Level
During beginner and mid game, having a few super Quality high level tower is much stronger than a spread out low level tower. For example, a level 8 Tower can beat a group of level 3 towers. Avoid spreading out your defenses across the island with lots of low level defenses. By upgrading a bunch of second rate defenses, it will only push your base level up higher without actually gaining “real” defensive capability. To starting out, you should have 3~4 key towers with to the max upgrades, so that you can switch them around while the others are being upgraded.
Conclusion: Focus on upgrading key towers instead of spreading out upgrades.
3. Sheep Farm and Lumber Mill In the Back Next to Home Base
The Sheep Farms and Lumber Mill do not do any damage on their own. This means that enemy dragons can skip them if they want. By placing them anywhere else on the island, you compound the issue because your enemies can use those island encounters as an easy no damage way to generate rage. By the time enemies get to your defensive towers, they will have enough rage to cast any spells they want, and annihilate your defenses.
Conclusion: Always Place Farms and Mills In the Back Next to Home Buildings.
4. All Islands Should be Filled
A fully packed island with towers is much stronger than islands with only 1 or 2 defenses. Always pack your islands only if you can fill them out to the max. Completed defenses can do more damage and individually take less damage. Packed buildings in a way split damage so that your dragons can only decide to tackle at most 3 at the same time. This leaves more time for the towers to deal damage before they get killed.
Conclusion: Always Fill Up Your Island Slots, Store Towers If You Cannot Fill Them. It’s better to have nothing other than weak buildings that let enemies gain rage.
5. Leave Towers Being Constructed By Themselves
Towers that are being constructed are seen as “empty” by the attacking enemies. This means that if you have a tower being constructed with your islands, they will be empty during the attack and renders your overall defense weak.
Conclusion: Always Move Your Constructing Towers Away to Far off Islands that are Empty
6. Save Your Defensive Tower Boosts for Later Game
During beginning and mid game, losing resources because of being raided is not much of a big deal. You do not lost much, however as time goes on and you advance through the ranks, you will start to actually defend your own bases, or defending the bases of your team mates. When this happens, you should have a good stack of tower boosts that can help you.
Conclusion: Save Your Defense Boosts for High Level Resource Defense.
7. Research Dragon Tech Tree First, then Tower Research
Although it can be tempting to spend your extra eggs for research to boost towers early on. It is generally much better to use them to improve the efficiency of your dragons first. As you advance the game and hit the bottle neck with your construction, then spend those extra time to backbreed dragons and prepare eggs for research.
Conclusion: Do Research When the Time is Right
8. Mix and Match Your Key Towers
A general good base should have the strongest towers in all categories. You want your base to withstand attacks from dragons with different kind of resists. It means that only upgrading 1 type of tower defense is generally a really bad idea. Keep a good balance of all the damage dealing towers to make sure that no enemies can breeze through your defenses with the correct counter resistance.
Conclusion: Mix up Your Defenses To Avoid Specific Resistance
