Basic Defensive Tower Introduction
Below is a quick summary of each of the defensive towers that you can current use in the game.
This is your most basic defensive tower that deal decent enough damage. They deal one of the best damage throughout the game. By having a high level of this in combination with other debuff towers to unlock its full potential. You want to keep 1 or even 2 on hand throughout most of the game to keep your base fully defended.
Special Attack: Flaming Arrow: Double Damage on Short Circuit.
Cannon Tower is useful because it has the skill that penetrate and break through shield spells.
Special Attack: Heavy Explosives, Break Invincibility Shield
Storm tower is useful mainly to protect your other towers. Never place them too close to one another since they cannot protect each other. The other towers being shielded are invincible and do not receive any damage.
Special Attack: Protective Shield
Ballista is a tower that deals damage over time. It’s effective during beginning stage of the game where Dragons do not have too much HP and cannot handle DoT attacks well. However, once you reach base level 18+, their effectiveness decreases drastically, because most of the higher dragons can simply take the DoT damage while destroying your base. However, they can still be somewhat useful at the beginning of the base or around turns.
Special Attack: Poison Arrow.
Red Mage Tower (Level 13)
Generally stop Red colored spells that can destroy your bases quite easily. Consider placing Red Mage Tower on most of your islands to reduce number of special attacks.
Steal Enemy Dragon Rage
Blue Mage Tower (Level 16)
Steal Enemy Dragon Rage and generally stop Blue colored spells like Shields.
Trebuchet (Level 22)
Trebuchet is a powerful debuff type tower that stun enemy dragons.
Special Attack: Stun Enemy Dragon
Lightning Tower (Level 32)
Lightning Tower deals good damage when alone, but awesome damage when grouped together. Whenever you use lightning tower with your defense, you must
Special Attack: Adjacent Tower Bonus
Defensive Tower Building General Guidelines
The key to having a good defensive tower setup requires the following three major pointers.
1. Mix Your Tower Types.
2. Make them Big
3. Cover your flaws.
Next, you do not want to place more than 2 “defensive” towers with any islands. The defensive towers include Storm, Blue Mage, and Red Mage. You generally want to go with Storm + Either Red or Blue, but not Blue Mage + Red Mage since the two mage tower’s function overlap to some extend.
Below are some of the layouts that can fulfill these defense requirements.
Base Level 1~12 Tower Defense Setup
Front: 2 Archer
Middle: 1 Storm
Back: 1 Cannon, 1 Archer
Alternatively, you can consider mix in 1 Ballista for early game defense only. Note that the Ballista can be outdated as enemy Dragons get higher level. This means that you should not spend too much time nor resource to construct a high level Ballista.
Front: 2 Archer
Middle: 1 Storm
Back: 1 Cannon, 1 Ballista
Base Level 13~15 Tower Defense Setup
At this tier, you unlock the new Red Mage Tower. You generally want to put Cannon together with the Storm + Red combination to break through enemy’s shields. At this stage, consider gradually slow down the building of your Archer Towers, since as more tower types unlock, you may end up replacing some of the archer towers with more advanced offers.
Front: 1 Cannon, 1 Archer
Back: 1 Red Mage, 1 Archer
Base Level 16~22 Tower Defense Setup
Unlocking the Blue Mage Tower gives you an option to either go for Mage Tower or Cannons, since the main goal of this breed of tower is anti-shield. Because there is overlap, you can now choose either Cannon or Blue Mage.
Front: 2 Archers
Back: 1 Blue Mage, 1 Archer
Base Level 22~32 with Trebuchet
Front: 1 Trubuchet, 1 Cannon
Middle: 1 Red Mage
Back: 1 Storm, (1 Trubuchet or 1 Archer)
Base Level 32+ Tower Defense Setup
With the Lightning Tower unlocked, you now have the capability to add in a new mixture. You generally want to have at least 3x Lightning towers with your lightning tower based islands. The lightning towers appears to need to be adjacent to each other for the additional damage boost.
Front: 2 Lightning
Middle: 1 Lightning
Back: 1 Storm, (1 Red Tower or 1 Blue Mage Tower)
